Since her election to Metro Council in 2018, Nicole George has been Metro Government’s leading advocate for safer street design.
On Metro Council, she served as the Chair of the Public Works Committee, advocating for traffic calming funding and arterial roadway redesigns, and after the 2022 election, Mayor Craig Greenberg named Nicole the Deputy Mayor of Metro Public Works.
Please join us on Tuesday, June 25 at 7:30pm at Monnik in Schnitzelburg as Deputy Mayor George highlights the city’s efforts to move toward safer, more complete streets.
In Nicole's time in Metro Government, the city’s Vision Zero efforts have grown considerably:
Federal funding from KIPDA has increasingly gone to complete street projects.
Metro Public Works has collaborated with KYTC, the state’s transportation department, to identify a High Injury Network in Louisville, with an emphasis on dedicating more funding toward safety improvements on these roads.
And most recently, Mayor Greenberg’s budget proposal for FY24-25 has included funding for the creation of a Department of Transportation, as well as a Slow Streets Program with a focus on neighborhood-level traffic calming.
We hope you will join us on Tuesday, June 25 to hear more about Metro’s efforts to combat traffic violence and improve quality of life for citizens across Jefferson County.
