Parks Alliance of Louisville
Pollinator Garden/Nature Discovery Zone at the new Alberta Jones Park
The Parks Alliance is spearheading a coalition of residents and public, private, and non-profit entities to reverse decades of systemic disinvestment and transform nearly 20 acres of vacant land into a world-class community greenspace in the historically under-served and disinvested California Neighborhood. They broke ground on the project in March 2023. Phase I includes the pollinator garden, a natural play space, an outdoor classroom, walking paths, and a great lawn. These elements will serve as the "heart" of the park and are the highest priority for residents. Creating the pollinator garden within the park will serve four primary purposes: corridor creation, diversity of species, increased community education/engagement about nature and the importance of pollinator species, and the use of native plants as an opportunity for job skills training.
The Parks Alliance of Louisville is developing a 12,000-square-foot pollinator garden and nature discovery zone within the new Alberta O. Jones Park in the California Neighborhood of West Louisville.
