Community Tree Giveaway
The Community Tree Giveaway will take benefit residents in various neighborhoods within Louisville, specifically targeting census tracts identified by the Justice 40 Initiative as disadvantaged and disproportionately affected by environmental, economic, and health burdens. These areas often face challenges such as poor air quality, limited green spaces, and higher rates of food insecurity and health issues . The Giveaway will also take place in Louisville's Portland neighborhood.
Key neighborhood Impacted: Russell: This neighborhood is part of Louisville’s urban core and has historically faced economic challenges and environmental degradation. The tree giveaway will enhance green spaces and improve air quality. Smoketown: Another urban core area, Smoketown, is characterized by a lack of green spaces and higher pollution levels. Increasing the tree canopy here will contribute to better health outcomes and environmental quality. Park Hill: Identified as a food desert, Park Hill benefits greatly from increased green spaces
