Americana Community Center
Americana Community Garden
Established in 2006, Americana’s Community Garden is a space dedicated to the physical, mental, and emotional nourishment of our low-income, immigrant, and refugee neighbors. The Community Garden includes 12 plots where individuals and families are able to grow food for themselves and their community. Participants in the Community Garden program learn about sustainable gardening techniques, share knowledge with one another, and strengthen social networks.
Americana’s Children’s Garden provides opportunities for youth participants to get outside, connect with nature, and learn to grow and enjoy healthy food. Featuring raised beds, berry brambles, flowers, rain barrels, and an outdoor classroom space, the Children’s Garden offers a dynamic setting in which to implement fun learning activities from various environmental and nutrition curricula. Additionally, by engaging in arts and crafts, games, and mindfulness activities in the garden space, youth participants become more connected to their environment and to each other in a calm, safe space that supports social-emotional learning and exploration. In addition to supporting these important existing programs, Americana will use available funding to support general grounds maintenance. We will hire a local landscaping service to remove invasive species and then host one or more volunteer groups to help plant native pollinator-friendly flowers and shrubs around the grounds.
