Jonathan Balas joined Yum! Brands in 2006 and now serves as Sr. Manager, Global Sustainability responsible for the global development of new foundational green buildings for the company including the exploration of energy and water conservation measures in support of Yum’s 40,000 restaurants. He develops sustainable building standards and speaks to global partners on the benefits of sustainable practices as part of the People, Planet, Profits approach to operating a world-leading business. Prior to moving to Louisville, Jonathan was an architect and senior project manager with a Boston architectural and engineering firm where he led a wide range of historic adaptation, preservation, educational and government projects.
During the course of his nineteen year career he has also owned and managed an architectural design firm, focused on residential projects, and conducted detailed historic building restoration analysis. Jonathan holds a Master’s of Architecture degree, with Certificate in Historic Preservation, from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and History from the University of Vermont.
